With Arsenal Struggling, “Wenger Out” Campaign to Return from Last Season?

Arsene Wenger’s time at Arsenal has been flirting with being fired/sacked going back into last season. Right around the time they got thrashed by Bayern Munich last season in the Champions League Round of 16, Arsenals reputation as a dominant English team has deteriorated. Arsenal lost to Bayern Munich by an aggregate of 10-2, and protests for Wenger to be sacked proceeded until the end of the season.

It was very much a guessing game at the end of last season as to if Wenger would still remain as Arsenals manager. The French manager has spent over 20 years with Arsenal and has revolutionized the sport in England, making the game more focused on conditioning, endurance, and nutrition. His side shined for most of his career, but he has been slow to keep up with today’s game.

Wenger only recently decided to change his formation from a 4-4-2 to a 3-5-2. The environment seems to be toxic in the locker room as top players are seeming to make an exit from the team as soon as possible. Alexis Sanchez has been looking to leave the Gunners over a year now and would be welcome at any top team in Europe. The man has come out to say he wants to win more trophies, and clearly, he doesn’t seem to be getting off those at Arsenal.

Top prospects like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants out of the club and would prefer a squad like Liverpool. Once a top signing for Arsenal, Mesut Ozil looks to be a shadow of the player he once was. He hasn’t been the assisting king as we all thought he would be. He has been a starting player, yet has gone missing on the pitch.

Olivier Giroud spoke out after Arsenal’s embarrassing 4-0 loss to Liverpool last week saying, “I’m ashamed by Arsenals performance at Liverpool… we MUST change.” Arsenal has a filled September schedule coming up. They have 2 Europa League matches, 3 Premier League matches including one away at Chelsea and two at home against Bournemouth and West Brom, and a League Cup match against Doncaster.

West Brom has been a fantastic side in the start of the Premier League as they sit 5th in the league with 2 wins and 1 draw. Chelsea seems to be figuring out their kinks as they are 6th in the league with 2 wins, including one over Tottenham, and 1 loss.

Arsenal has come up short so far in the league. They have 1 win and 2 losses coming from Stoke City and Liverpool. Arsenal must pick up the pace as their season is just getting started and the “Wenger Out” campaign seems to be slowly reinstating its way back into the mix. If we start seeing protests and banners flown over stadiums and in the stadiums than we will most likely be saying goodbye to an all time great Premier League manager very soon.
